Important issues
- FÍN is a trade union for all natural scientists that have completed at least BSc - degree in natural science.

FÍN makes wage contracts for its members with employers and today we have wage contracts with:
- Public sector:

- The Icelandic government/ríkið
- The city of Reykjavík/Reykjavíkurborg
- The Association of Local Authorities in Iceland/Launanefnd sveitarfélaga
- Privite sector:

- FÍN tries to maintain the teamwork and unity within the union and among natural scientists in Iceland.
- FÍN assists its member in various problems regarding rights and infringements on agreements.
- FÍN informs its members about wages and conducts surveys.

FÍN rents summer cottages to its members. Fullsæl in the South of Iceland and Skógarkot in the West.

Members in FÍN need to pay fee to be a member of the union. The fee to FÍN is 1,2% of your daily wages, if you are working on public sector, other pay 0,7% of total salaries.

The employer has to pay fee for each member in Orlofssjóður BHM (vacation fund). This fund rent to their members many summer cottages and flats in Reykjavík, Akureyri and overseas.

The employer has to pay fee for each member into a relief fund, "Styrktarsjóð BHM" (for the public sector) or "Sjúkrasjóð BHM" (for the privite sector). After six months of payment you can get paid from that fund, e.g. if you get sick and do not have enough sickness days, dentists cost and etc.

The employer have to pay fee for members to the science fund (Reykjavíkurborg/Launanefnd sveitarfélaga). These fund is not available for our member that follow the wage contract with the government. Vísindasjóður FÍN (Science fund) is alternative for member that are working on the private sector. If your employer pay a fee to Vísindasjóður FÍN (Science fund), you will get paid from that fund each year in december/january each year and you can use it to buy e.g. science books.

If you work at the privete sector and pay fee to our union you are able to pay fee into the pension fund (Lífeyrissjóður starfsmanna ríkisins - LSR).

If you decide to be a member in our union please fill out an application form, enclose diplomas, and send to us by mail or fax.

We also offer assistance regarding contract of employment before you sign it. We point out what you should avoid and give you advice regarding the contract.
