What is the BHM Public Sector Relief Fund?

The Public Sector Relief Fund is for BHM members employed in the public sector, i.e. by the government, a municipality or publicly-funded body.

The right to allocations from the Public Sector Relief Fund is contingent on payment of fund contributions for a period totalling 6 months, thereof 3 consecutive months before the occurrence of the event leading to the application for fund allocations (contribution paid by the employer). The same applies in the event of the birth of a child. If a fund member's contributions are less than 838 ISK per month, they are entitled to half the allocations.

  • Cancer screening
  • Risk assessment from the Icelandic Heart Association
  • Hearing aids
  • In-vitro fertilisation treatment
  • Hearing aid grant
  • Death benefits
  • Work-related accidents or unexpected termination
  • Doctor-advised rehabilitation stay at a health institution
  • Healthcare costs over 150,000 ISK
  • Expenses for travel abroad for medical procedures not covered by national health insurance

  • Applications are made through “Mínar síður” (My BHM) at www.bhm. Sign in with Icekey (Íslykill) or digital ID.
  • Invoices and receipts must be submitted in order for payment to be made.
