The Public Sect­or Rel­ief Fund

The Public Sector Relief Fund is available to BHM members who work in the public sector, whether for the government or municipalities. The Fund provides an array of grants.

Physical activity

Fund members are eligible for a grant of up to ISK 20,000 to support their engagement in physical activity and sports.

Physical and mental treatment

Fund members are entitled to a maximum grant of ISK 43,000 for treatment by certified healthcare professionals.

Cancer screening

Fund members are entitled to a grant for cancer screening and examinations.

Maternity or paternity grant

Fund members receive a maximum grant of ISK 175,000 for the birth of each child.

In vitro fertilisation treatment

Fund members receive a maximum grant of ISK 120,000 for in vitro fertilization treatments.

Hearing aids

Fund members are eligible for a maximum grant of ISK 100,000 to assist with the expenses of purchasing hearing aids.

A heart disease risk assessment

Fund members can receive a grant of up to ISK 10,000 for risk assessment of heart diseases.

Stay at a rehabilitation clinic

Fund members are eligible for a maximum grant of ISK 50,000 every two years for stays at rehabilitation clinics.

Death benefits

In the event of a Fund member's passing, death benefits of up to a maximum of ISK 350,000 are paid to the member's heir.

Work-related trauma or unexpected termination of employment.

The Fund provides support for cases of work-related trauma or unexpected termination of employment.

Travel grant due to a serious illness

Fund members are eligible to receive a grant for medical treatment abroad.

Other health costs

Under exceptional circumstances, such as instances where the costs are notably high, exceeding ISK 150,000, and are incurred due to illness or accidents affecting Fund members, the Fund's Board has the authority to award an allowance of up to ISK 150,000 within a 12-month period. An amount equivalent to 30% of the eligible costs is disbursed.

Adoption grant

Fund members receive a grant for the expenses of a trip abroad to collect a child for adoption.

Sickness Per Diem Allowance

Fund members are entitled to receive a sickness per diem allowance for periods of unpaid absence from work. This allowance amounts to 80% of the basic payments earned during the four months preceding their inability to work.
